For the next three days (6th – 8th PST) Aftermath by E.A. Copen is available as a free download.
I, as both the publisher and one of the editors, have made a few mistakes with this book which I am now trying to rectify. Initially, I wasn’t too concerned about the ending, possibly because I knew it was part of a series and there were more books on the way, though in reality, I was reading the book as a ‘chapter’ of a longer story and didn’t take into account that some readers would prefer a little more closure. While I can’t directly respond to reviewers, I would like to thank the readers who commented on this (and gave advice) in either their review or via email and private messenger. I spent a lot of time refreshing my knowledge on structuring a serial/series, story/character arcs, to ‘cliffhanger’ or not to ‘cliffhanger’, and after some discussion with E.A. Copen, we decided to add an additional chapter to the book, which I hope brings a little more closure to this ‘chapter’ of the story. If you are one of the readers who purchased a paperback and would like a revised copy, please forward proof of purchase to firstname.lastname@example.org, and I will arrange to send a revised copy to you (free of charge).
Of course, fixing the ending (hopefully) was only the beginning of the fun and games. In my endeavour to update the interior files I completely messed up the page numbering when I overestimated my formatting skills with Word. I ended up buying completely different software (which I love) to complete the task, and although I’m very pleased with the results, I am sure I tested both the cover designer and author’s patience. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, I admit that, and it took me longer than intended as I have a tendency to nitpick. The paperback is now available to buy from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other online stores.
As an end note, I would like to add that (in my opinion) the Broken Empire series only gets better, but I tend to enjoy books that are more space fantasy than science fiction, with political wrangling, character depth, and a variety of themes, includes the age-old good versus evil. While there are readers out there looking forward to reading the second installment of this series (provisionally scheduled for publication in autumn), I can’t wait to read the third book.
With that said, if Aftermath sounds like your ‘cup of tea’, please feel free to download a copy and help spread the word. Reviews, especially, are welcome. We are especially interested in networking with book bloggers.
