The release date for R.R. Virdi’s new book – Star Shepherd – is fast approaching, and the final preparations are in full swing as KDP counts down the hours and minutes until the ebook is locked down (which generally happens four days prior to release). In addition to some last minute proofreading, we have been checking and tweaking the listing details and keywords (repeatedly), as well as arranging promotions.

Back when running a small press was an inkling of an idea, I remember authors saying that to publish you ‘just’ upload a book to Amazon. Well, that’s not incorrect, but there’s much more to think about than uploading your manuscript and hitting publish (especially when you’re a perfectionist, as I am, and hate to make mistakes). There are categories to consider, keywords, the blurb description and formatting, and whether the cover ‘pops’ in thumbnail format. Then, of course, there’s the all-important marketing. So, yes, there’s a lot to think about.

Star Shepherd will launch on 19th March, at an introductory price of just 99c/p (ebook only/usual price $4.99/£3.99), while the paperback is priced at $15.99/£12.99 and included in matchbook (so if you purchase the paperback you get the ebook free).

From two-time Dragon Award-finalist and Nebula-finalist – Star Shepherd – the first book in the Shepherd of Light series.

A pilot on the run. A cargo that’ll change the fate of the galaxy forever. And the might of the military working to stop Star Shepherd from delivering salvation to the people.

Star Shepherd knows a raw deal when he sees one. And he’s got the worst one in the galaxy: to deliver a mysterious package to a rebellion to change the scales of power in favor of the common man. As he meets with an old friend to seek much-needed help, he draws the attention of a genocidal admiral willing to destroy entire worlds if it means catching Star Shepherd.

Will Star survive the chase and bring hope to the rebellion, or deliver a gift into the hands of a worse power, tipping the galaxy into further chaos?
